Look, I'm going to be blunt here. If you're a normal person, you like cookies.... If you don't, then you must be from Pluto. I've never met anyone who doesn't enjoy a nice cookie every now and then.
However, the problem with cookies is that they're notoriously unhealthy. With names like 'double-choc fudge' or 'triple-decca-chocca', it doesn't take a genius to see that most cookie recipes are extremely poor for your health.
As a nutritionist and passionate foodie, I've searched long and hard for a healthy cookie recipe that at least vaguely tastes as good as the real thing.... But I'm afraid to say I failed miserably. After testing somewhere between 30-40 different healthy cookie recipes, I didn't once find a recipe that I was blown away by.
So I went into the lab (...my kitchen), and slaved away in order to perfect a choc-chip cookie recipe that was not only 'healthy', but also tasted amazing and (almost) like the real deal.
I'm proud to say that I succeeded. Whilst it's almost impossible to make a healthy cookie taste as good as the real thing, I believe my recipe comes pretty darn close. In fact, I'm quite confident that at the date of posting this, this could be the best healthy chocolate chip cookie recipe on the internet (out of the ones I've found and tested).
So give them a try and let me know what you think.
By chance, these healthy cookies are also completely vegan. So if you're vegan, then prepare to have your socks absolutely blown off with this recipe.
If you're not vegan and want to give these cookies a little more sweetness, feel free to replace the dark chocolate (dairy free) with regular chocolate chips.
These healthy choc chip cookies taste incredible. I designed them to be on the softer side; and on the scale of cake-like softness to extreme crunch, I would say that these sit somewhere in the middle. They're a little bit chewy, but not overly so.
In the spectrum of healthy treats, these cookies can be described as being relatively sweet. However, it's a slightly different kind of sweet than you'd find in a regular chocolate chip cookie that's packed to the brim with sugar.
If you want to make these healthy cookies slightly less healthy, you can give them a bit of a sugar kick by using regular milk or white chocolate instead of dark chocolate. Even with regular chocolate, these cookies will still be a much healthier than regular cookies, and you can eat them guilt free. Obviously, if you're vegan, you probably won't be able to do this.
